It's both the ultimate joy and unfortunate truth of the animal bodywork field that to make changes in the world, we need animals to worth with. We've spent months and years honing our skills so that we can truly make a difference, but if we don't have clients, our impact is lessoned.
You know when you look at the holes in your schedule, knowing you love what you do, you have the skills to help your clients, but you just can’t find enough of them to fill your time and fulfill your purpose? Or, when you get excited about a new client, who turns out to not be a good fit for you, after all. The discouragement is palpable, and can color your enjoyment of all you do.
We go into this work because we love animals, not necessarily people, but it's the people that control your access to their animals. It's like there is a secret code we have to crack, or a puzzle that's missing a piece.
Most massage and energy schools don't spend much time teaching you how to find clients. Even if yours did, it's a whole different ball game when you try to implement strategies literally on your own.
I’m Lisa Ruthig, a mentor at Power of Touch for Animals. I’m also director of animal programs at Bancroft School of Massage Therapy, and chair of the National Board of Certification for Animal Acupressure and Massage. I have a massage practice for small animals and equines, and do energy work, as well.
I’ve been doing animal massage and energy work for about 10 years. For many of those early years, I had some clients, but only some, because every marketing thing I tried felt like it hurt me, physically, and didn’t work, anyway. Word of mouth was very, very, agonizingly slow.
I struggled for years, not knowing how make my service appealing or knowing how to capture the attention of new clients.
Selling made me feel slimy, every time I went to talk to a vet or referral partner, my heart would pound, because I felt like I was asking them for a favor out of the blue. Even if they realize I’m awesome at what I do, why would they want to help me? Often I wouldn’t even go in.
Then I learned a non-slimy, win-win referral strategy, and, being me, I convinced myself it wouldn’t work for me, and I shelved it. And continued on with my small client load, until the pain was finally greater than the fear, and I tried it.
Woot! Suddenly I had 14 new clients, and 9 of them rebooked. I made an extra $6,880 that year. Overall, I’ve made $23,931 from clients that came in with this method, that wouldn’t have been my clients otherwise.
Initially, I had a 64% rebook rate. In the last year, I made some subtle changes to how I run my massage sessions, and my rebook rate from this method has been 100%. I love the clients my referral partners are trained to send me. Many of my clients are with me for life.
It is a life-changing realization that your schedule is as full as you can handle, and when one client leaves, another is waiting to take her place. I now have the financial freedom to take new skills classes and expand impact for my clients.
is to learn the key elements to build a pipeline that will continue to provide your practice with clients for years to come, so that you can fill your schedule, stop worrying about money, and focus on what’s really fulfilling in your business.
Module 1
Easily bring in clients that need you long term and can afford you, using a referral generation method that feels good to both you and your referral partners.
Stop wasting time chasing clients that aren’t perfect for you, and let your referral partners pre-qualify them, persuade them, and remove objections due to risk.
Over seven weeks, Consistent Clients lays out what you need to know to find great clients and keep them for life. You are fully supported along the way with live group coaching and a Facebook support group. Your assignments are personally reviewed by Lisa. We are invested in your success.
